The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. ACS materials include pamphlets, booklets, brochures, bookmarks and shower cards providing general information on pap tests, and other cancer related materials. The ACS has materials in Spanish and Chinese.

Cancer Care, Inc. is a national nonprofit agency dedicated to providing emotional support, information, referral, and practical assistance to people with cancer and their loved ones, at no charge. Cancer Care has helped over a million people nationwide through its toll-free Counseling Line, its teleconference programs, its office-based services, and via the Internet. National Ovarian Cancer Association (formally the Corrine Boyer Fund )    416/971-9800
The National Ovarian Cancer Association was established in 1996, as Corinne Boyer Fund, to address the neglect surrounding the "disease that whispers", ovarian cancer. NOCA is dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer, providing leadership by supporting women and their families living with the disease, raising awareness in the general public and with health care professionals, funding research to develop reliable early detection techniques, improved treatments and ultimately, a cure.
The Corinne Boyer Fund was founded by Patrick Boyer in memory of his wife Corrine.

Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF)     800/444-4441
GCF is a not-for-profit fund-raising organization established by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) to support ovarian cancer research, training of cancer specialists in laboratory research, and a variety of programs for patient education and public awareness of gynecologic cancers. Calls will enable an individual to obtain a list of nearby specialists in gynecologic oncology, a nation-wide directory of all SGO members, and informational literature. The GCF also sponsors an interactive internet site called the Women's Cancer Network (http://www.wcn.org). It offers understandable medical information about gynecologic cancers, treatment options, and experimental therapeutic programs. By answering specific questions a woman will be told her risk for developing specific cancers such as gynecologic, breast and colon cancers, and how to change those risks.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Information Service     800/4CANCER
A national central clearing-house, the NCI Information Services is a practical first stop for those first diagnosed with cancer. Trained personnel provide medical information by telephone related to specific cancers, treatments, and coping strategies. Printed materials include "What You Need To Know about Ovarian Cancer," lists of cancer centers and clinical trial information.

National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC)     888/OVARIAN
NOCC is a national membership organization with state chapters. Its informational packet contains information about a wide range of ovarian cancer issues and resources. NOCC promotes awareness and education for the general public and medical community and funding for research to find an early detection mechanism.

Ovarian Cancer National Alliance     202/331-1332
This national umbrella organization works to increase public and professional understanding of ovarian cancer, and to advocate for more effective diagnostics, treatments, and cure. Members include survivors and family members, local and national organizations, and health care providers. Materials include awareness information and national policy issue papers. The Alliance sponsors an annual Advocacy Conference.

Ovarian Plus: Gynecologic Cancer Prevention Quarterly     808/776-1696
The newsletter has timely information about international research, diagnosis, and treatments for ovarian cancer and the other gynecologic cancers. It targets risk reduction, screening, early detection, psychosocial and policy issues, and addresses current events in the ovarian cancer community. Published by a journalist with a strong family history of ovarian cancer, it features a Medical Advisory Board of prominent ovarian cancer researchers, and articles by medical writers.

Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO)     312/644-6610
The SGO is a professional organization of specialists trained in obstetrics and gynecology who subsequently took formal training (surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy) to become qualified to participate in all effective forms of treatment of women with gynecologic cancers. Affiliate members of the SGO are specialists in radiation therapy, medical oncology or pathology who have particular interests and skills in gynecologic cancer care.

OCRF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing and supporting laboratory and clinical research that promotes the development of new therapies and techniques for early detection, screening, and treatment of ovarian cancer. The Sandra G. Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas was established in 1996 to develop effective screening methods and a cure for ovarian cancer through innovative research into causes, prevention, detection and treatment. The Program is a multidisciplinary integration of patient care and research initiatives. The program is comprised of three parts; clinical care, community relations, and research. This office provides national leadership in advancing women+s health through public policy, research, service delivery, and education. It develops, simulates, and coordinates women's health research, health care services, and public and health professional education and training across the agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services. Programs include eighteen Centers of Excellence in Women's Health, which serve as models of integrated and comprehensive women's health research and clinical services, including regular screening for breast, ovarian, and cervical cancers.
